What it does

Everything Loom and Vimeo do, without the meter running

  • 01

    Record without installing anything

Hit record and capture your screen, your camera, or both. Swap window, hide the camera or mute mid-take — the recording keeps rolling.

  • 02

You decide who sees each video

Keep it to yourself, share a link, or publish it to the web. Links can expire, and you can revoke one whenever you want.

  • 03

    One tidy library

Folders, tags and search over everything you have recorded. Uploads start while you are still talking, so saving is instant.

  • 04

    No per-minute bill

Your videos are transcoded and stored on hardware you choose — your own machine, or a bucket you own. Nothing is metered.

  • 05

Add people when you need to

Start on your own. Invite others into a workspace later for timestamped comments, viewer stats and roles — or never, if you prefer.

  • 06

    Open source, yours to keep

The server is AGPLv3 and the player is MIT. Read every line, run it yourself, and take your library with you.

How it feels

Record, keep, share — three quiet moves

01 — Record

Press record. Keep talking.

Screen, camera or both, straight from the browser. Swap the window, hide the camera or mute mid-take — the recording never stops, and every few seconds of it is already on its way to your storage.

  • No extension, no install
  • Switch sources mid-take
  • Uploads in chunks while you speak

02 — Library

Everything in one place.

Folders, tags and search across everything you have recorded. The upload finishes while you are still typing the title, and the video is playable the moment you stop.

  • Plays instantly, then upgrades to HLS
  • Ladder built on your own worker
  • Folders, tags, search

03 — Share

Decide who sees it.

Private, link-only or public, per video. Links can expire, downloads can be allowed, and every request is checked before a single byte leaves your bucket.

  • Expiring, revocable links
  • Timestamped comments and replies
  • Likes, viewer stats, roles

Self-host

Runs on your machine, or your bucket

Novacast transcodes with ffmpeg into an adaptive stream and puts the result wherever you point it — a folder on your laptop, or S3, R2 or MinIO. Nothing is counted, and every request is checked against your sharing rules before a byte is served.

  1. Step 1

    Upload

    Streamed straight to storage

  2. Step 2

    Transcode

    ffmpeg on your own worker

  3. Step 3

    HLS ladder

    Rungs from the short side

  4. Step 4

    Authorised play

    Checked every segment

Swap storage with one variable

  • Quality ladder built on your own hardware, so nothing is metered
  • Point it at local disk or any S3-compatible bucket
  • Every request is checked against your sharing rules
